The Alpine Firefighters Association took to Facebook to say they would like to offer to bring fire engines to homes/neighborhoods for children who are celebrating their birthday and stuck at home.
The Facebook post stated,“We know it’s difficult having to explain why birthday parties have been cancelled. Alpine Township Fire would like to spread a little cheer for children in the are.”
“We wish we could do more, like truck tours, but unfortunately, we need everyone to keep their distance.”
“It’s nice to be able to help out and add some excitement for kids who have to stay home on their birthday,’’ said Tom Katerberg, an Alpine Township firefighter.
Eager neighborhood kids flocked outside yesterday when they heard all the commotion, greeting firemen with lots of waves and cheers. It was already deemed “the best birthday yet”, from one of the children who had a fire engine help celebrate her birthday.
It is amazing the extent the fire departments are willing to go to bring children cheer during this tough time. It will have a lasting impact in their lives and will mean alot to these kids.
If you live in the Alpine/Plainfield area and know a child who is celebrating a birthday soon and would love to see a fire engine on their birthday, check out the Alpine Firefighters Facebook post and send them a message!
